Your well-being and oral health are very important to us here at Family Dentistry of South Florida. We work hard to provide you with the best care possible in a comfortable and safe environment. We provide oral exams and dental cleanings to help you maintain the best oral health.
A critical aspect of keeping your oral health maintained is through brushing and flossing on a regular basis. However, spots can be missed by even very diligent brushers, and leave those areas that are difficult to reach susceptible to harmful bacteria and its effects - gum disease and tooth decay. You may think you are doing fine, however, truthfully, there are no signs exhibited by the earliest signs of gingivitis (gum disease). You could have the disease without being aware of it.
Our Dentist and team of highly trained dental hygienists, are all here to assist you. We recommend that you visit us once every six months at least to have a professional cleaning done. We will help prevent damage that bacteria causes, like tooth loss and cavities. We use different tools for this that are likely quite different from the ones you have at home in your bathroom. Specially shaped tools are used to scrape tartar (hardened plaque that normal brushing cannot remove) and plaque off of the surfaces of your teeth and next to your gum line. Another tool is then used for polishing your teeth until they are sparkling clean. We also have tools to offer dental sealants & fluoride treatments .
If the thought of getting your teeth cleaned makes you feel panicked, ask us to tell you more about the intraoral cameras we have available. An intraoral allows you to see everything that we see by projecting it onto a monitor. We also have sedation options available, if that isn't enough, to help relax you during the process.
Once your teeth have been cleaned, one of our hygienists or the Dentist will conduct a thorough oral exam. The exam checks your mouth's health and searches for anything that may be wrong. It may also pinpoint health problems that don't have anything to do with your mouth also, like diabetes and heart disease. The exams are important also for pregnant women since there are some oral problems might lead to low birth weight and premature birth.
We thoroughly check your gums for any indication of gum disease and teeth for signs of decay. We look at your teeth as well for signs of other types of damage like fractures, chips, and cracks. If you have sealants or filling we will check their condition and ensure they are intact still and are not in need of being replaced. We also will check the condition of other oral appliances you have such as implants, dentures, bridges, veneers, and crowns. Their condition is also very important in order to maintain good health. We will spend time talking to you during the exam also. You might be asked about your lifestyle habits or oral hygiene habits, like drinking or smoking. We will discuss concerns regarding your oral health that are discovered during your exam. You also will be provided with the opportunity to voice your concerns and ask any questions you have to ensure that your mouth is kept as healthy as possible.
A number of different benefits are offered by exams and cleanings. Your teeth are thoroughly cleaned and might even look whiter after we are done. Your breath will be freshened. An exam makes it possible to spot issues early and enable intervention to be done before they get worse. To get your next exam and cleaning scheduled give us a call today!
