Dental Bonding

Composite Dental Bonding

In everyone's life, sooner or later there comes a point in time when they look at themselves in the mirror and come to the realization that they need to rejuvenate their smile. It isn't anything to be ashamed about and you shouldn't really be surprised when you consider all of the things that our teeth do and the beating they take on a continuous basis. After drinking hundreds of cups of coffee, it really isn't surprising that they need some whitening. However, what can you do about damage teeth with chips or cracks in them? We here at Family Dentistry of South Florida, offer a treatment called composite dental bonding. It can effectively and quickly repair damaged teeth, to restore your smile to its former glory.

What is composite dental bonding?

We can use dental bonding to repair teeth that been significantly cracked or chipped. Composite dental resin is a relatively new and valuable material that enables us to fill and repair your teeth seamlessly using a long-lasting and strong material that is virtually impossible to see.

Unlike amalgam, which is the silver metallic material that is used traditionally in filling, an invisible solution for tooth repair is offered by composite resins. When the composite resin material is used, it allows us to sculpt missing chipped tooth pieces, and to cover or reinforce unsightly cracks. The treatment can last for a number of years and is a permanent solution.

The same resin is used to achieve the dental bonding we do when filling in colored tooth fillings.

Effective and Fast Treatment With Dental Bonding

Dental bonding, when compared with other types of cosmetic dental procedures, is very fast, cost-effective, and easy, while providing long-lasting and beautiful results. We get your treatment started by mixing resin so that it exactly matches your tooth color. Everyone has unique teeth when it comes to their shade and colorations, and we do a great job in ensuring that your bond looks natural.

Next, we will prepare your teeth for receiving the bond through the use of a special tool that textures your tooth. We add texture to your tooth through scratching small lines on the surface of the area where the bonding will take place. That provides the tooth with the extra surface area where the resin takes hold to add longevity and stability to the bond. Then resin is applied to the tooth. When initially applied to your tooth, the resin has a clay or putty consistency. The consistency enables us to shape and mold it. After we achieve the desired effect, a special ultraviolet light is then applied to the resin to harden it into place permanently.

Special Care Instructions

Like all dental restorations, taking good care of the dental boring is very important. Make sure your teeth are not used as tools for opening bags and packages. Don't chew on ice and other hard objects or really sticky caramels and candies. Other than those specific issues, your teeth can be used as you would normally.
